Two ideas shape Buena Ola's perspective: The triple bottom line and Tensegrity.
The triple bottom line
The triple bottom line (tbl) is how we distinguish a great company from a good one. In practice, we measure each company on a wide range of factors that inform the three pillars of the tbl: people, planet and prosperity. By prosperity we mean a company's own durable strength: its profits, its balance sheet and its growth prospects. A tbl company is one that shows a net positive impact across all three pillars. We use the triple bottom line to find companies built to last, and we prefer to own great ones.
Tensegrity
Tensegrity is strength that comes from balanced tension, not a rigid base. The human body works this way, with bone held in a living web of muscle and fascia, an outward strength meeting pressure from every angle. So do living cells, where different forces switch on different responses. It is built into bridges and roofs where force spreads through many paths and no single part carries the load. In every form a tensegrity structure bends and recovers instead of breaking.
We see tensegrity in three places. A tbl company is one: its people, planet and prosperity pillars hold each other in balance, and no single pillar carries the rest. Our models work like living cells, where a change in the underlying market condition switches on a different response. And our portfolio is built like a bridge: each company stands on its own, held together by one shared discipline, so no single holding carries the load.
